Lucky home invader...

A brave homeowner drove away an armed home invader with his own gun. This was the second time in as many weeks that his home had been broken into. The first time he and his wife were out of town. Unfortunately, the gunman or gunmen got away. This guy would have been well justified in putting a couple rounds into the robber...and should have just for good measure because now, they're still free to come back and break in again. I don't think they will....but you never know, criminals are pretty stupid.

Here's the link to the article at Clayton Cramer's Self Defense Gun Blog

One of the big-dog gun bloggers just posted a blog from one of my tips....have a look

These are the "common sense" restrictions that Obama's talking about

So, a 10 year old kid could do prison time for possessing a spent shotgun shell that he was given by a Veteran after a Memorial Day gun salute. What the hell is wrong with this country that this is ok??
I'm assuming these are the "common sense" gun restrictions Obama and his ilk are talkinga about. Now....is that common sense? or reasonable? or rational?

UPDATE: It wasn't a shotgun shell (I didn't think that made sense) it was a spent rifle cartridge. Here's the news article....

Chicago Police Dept Shit storm

First, I really can't believe that cities can get away with this shit. ESPECIALLY cities that feel so self righteous as to BAN guns altogether because a couple of their seated officials think it's the best way to combat crime. Apparently there's been a rogue team of cops in the Chicago PD that were committing armed robberies and kidnapping people. The problem is that this is going to overshadow the numerous other corruptions that have been taking place in that city.

From Second City Cop

Scandal Goes Big Time

  • OFFICER HERRERA GOES PUBLIC - Indicted Chicago Police Officer Keith Herrera speaks for the first time publicly about his former unit, the Special Operations Section, members of which are accused of crimes including armed robbery and kidnapping, in one of the largest police scandals in Chicago history. Katie Couric reports.
Get ready for the biggest national shit-storm to hit this Department in the past few years, maybe even a decade. And the truly sad thing is that it will cover a rogue team of allegedly unsupervised officers and tar the entire Department with it while studiously ignoring the 15 people arrested for bribes last week, the semi-annual jailing of the aldercreatures, the crooked contracting scandals, crooked land deals involving Rezko, Obama, the mayor's nephew and anyone else connected with the chosen few.

Batten down the hatches.

I just don't get how the people let their cities get like this.

...carrying 171 rounds of ammo and cartridges....huh?

Please see this link and view the comments.... AP looks like morons after this one.
http://massbackwards.blogspot.com/2008/05/must-have-been-one-small-car.html

Letter that I wrote to Associated Press.

In an article by Alicia A. Caldwell, she made a few very basic errors. First, she said that the car was loaded with an arsenal. Well, I guess since the definition of Arsenal includes "a collection of weapons" she's not incorrect but it's blatant misuse to evoke fear, disgust, and other emotional responses was irresponsible.
" AR-15 assault rifle" - What is an "assault" rifle? is that the brand or something? It's actually just a "scary" word used to evoke fear and other emotional responses.
"171 rounds of ammunition, several cartridges and three knives." Uh....rounds are cartridges. Again, she's adding words to evoke fear. When, actually, she's totally ignorant about what she's writing about.
Making a big deal of 171 rounds and three knives is also ignorant and irresponsible. 171 rounds of .45 ammo could fit in your shoe. and three knives?? so what I have at least 25 knives in my kitchen...and most of them are probably bigger and scarier than whatever this guy had.

The ignorance and arrogance of the press is astounding.

Please go read this blog post...

Here's the link.

This blog speaks on paradigm shifts...changes in standard thinking. We've gotten to a point in the US where a large amount of people thing guns are icky...guns kill....guns are bad...et cetera.

This post does a good job showing that it's time for that paradigm to shift....back to the way that it was 30-40-50 years ago.

Lots of Dems in California House

Here's a link to all of California's reps...

Clayton Cramer's Self Defense Blog

Here's a blog that aggregates stories from around the country where people defended themselves using guns. It's really interesting to see just how many of these there are........and these are just the ones that get reported on.

Here's the link - Click Here

This, basically speaking, is why Americans need guns

I was going to type up a blurb...but I'd just be retyping the article.

Check it out - Click here

Jane Harman wishes/wished to "eradicate dissent". Scary shit.

Meet Jane Harman. She is a California Representative who wrote a bill to "eradicate dissent". This is a bill that went to the House in about October 2007. Here's a link to the actual bill. Notice that it sets out to prevent "an extremist belief system for facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change" God forbid we question the government and be passionate about our views. Also, this reduction in our right to free speech costs us each $0.20

The following are/were cosponsors/cocommunists:

Rep Carney, Christopher P. [PA-10] - 9/18/2007
Rep Christensen, Donna M. [VI] - 9/18/2007
Rep Clarke, Yvette D. [NY-11] - 9/18/2007
Rep Dent, Charles W. [PA-15] - 8/1/2007
Rep Dicks, Norman D. [WA-6] - 9/18/2007
Rep Green, Al [TX-9] - 9/18/2007
Rep Langevin, James R. [RI-2] - 9/18/2007
Rep Lofgren, Zoe [CA-16] - 9/18/2007
Rep Lowey, Nita M. [NY-18] - 9/18/2007
Rep Lungren, Daniel E. [CA-3] - 9/18/2007
Rep Perlmutter, Ed [CO-7] - 9/18/2007
Rep Poe, Ted [TX-2] - 10/3/2007
Rep Reichert, David G. [WA-8] - 4/19/2007
Rep Thompson, Bennie G. [MS-2] - 9/18/2007

Here again we've got an uneducated in history elected official. Hasn't she heard of Hitler? Stalin? Mussolini? Those people did a couple of things...besides murder millions of people....they took away the right to have guns and they made it illegal to dissent the government.

So, Jane Harman wants to do away with our 1st amendment rights. She also supports HR1022 which infringes our 2nd amendment rights. From what I understand, she's one of the most egregious violators of the constitution out there.

What I can't figure out is why, why these people choose to strip American citizens of their rights. Maybe it's because they know the laws probably won't be enforced against them or that they might even be written out of them.

“The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then.”

I am sorry to say that for the first time since I was eligible to vote I
will probably stay home on election day. What a choice!! One candidate who
promises 4 more years of disastrous Bush policies, another who speaks well
and has no real substance, and a bimbo who is willing to destroy her own
party to further her warped personal ambition.Just once before I leave this
earth I would like to be able to vote for a candidate that I actually
believe in.

Some Correlations

I really wish the people in office would read a little history. Now, I'm no academic but I see some correlations in society today. Like...the correlation between an OUTRAGEOUS amount of crime in America and the "war on drugs". I see another correlation between the dropping age of criminals in America and the politically correct idea that we shouldn't be punishing/disciplining our children. I see a staggering correlation between the mass-murdering psychopaths and the "gun free zones" they use to commit their atrocities. I see a correlation between the knee jerk reacting liberal government officials at all levels and the infringements of our rights, including the 1st amendment, the 2nd amendment, and the 4th amendment.

Can people open a book and look back to the Tens, Twenties, and some of the Thirties when drugs, guns, and discipline were still legal, our liberties were far less infringed upon and crime was FAR FAR lower than it is now?

Why can't the .GOV just let me treat my body however I please?

Why can't the .GOV just let me defend myself whichever way I see fit to defend
myself?

Why can't the .GOV just let me discipline my child/ren how I see fit?

Why can't the .GOV just let my personal space, person, or papers be?

Remember this?

Michelle Obama is horrible.

I wonder if Obama has forced her to shed her cynicism... I guess not... The scary part is that she says he wants to make people be better. What does that mean? Whose definition of better do we go by? His? Are we better when we're disarmed? Are we better when we don't "cling" to religion? Are we better when we aren't blue collar hard working beer drinking deer hunting red blooded Americans? Is that what he means??

Catching wild pigs

Catching Wild Pigs

A chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Prof noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government. In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?' The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity. The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America. The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we continually lose our freedoms -- just a little at a time. One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free lunch! Also, a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself. Also, if you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America, you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut! In this 'very important' election year, listen closely to what the candidates are promising you. Just maybe you will be able to tell who is about to slam the gate on America.

Iron Sights Steel Target Match Tonight. -or- Mrs. DJK's idea of gun talk

So..Mrs. DJK and I were talking about our plans for the evening. She asked me if I was going shooting tonight and if so what time I'd be leaving. I said, "about 6:20 or 6:30, I like to get there a little early and bs with the guys...you know, gun talk" and she said, "You mean like BANG BANG"?

HAHAHAHAHA I love this woman very much.. BANG BANG!

The $0.30 Sandwich.

So, there's a Vons by the office that I go to every once in a while for a meal or whatever. Today I went there and picked up a pre-made rosbif (that's some Spanish for ya) sandwich. It came in a container with some macaroni salad, YUM, and a bag of fritos. I also grabbed a half-gallon of soy milk, store brand. So, when she ran my two items past the bar-code scanner they went beep....beeep, two items right? But my total was only $3.29. I told her that it wasn't enough and she looked at my receipt and when she scanned the sandwich she had actually scanned the bag of Fritos inside - $0.30.

Boom good deed for day....done! Now I can be a total bastard.

Dooce is friggin hilarious.

Dooce, I love you. I don't really LOVE you...I just think you're really funny. I think you're the bees knees. You make my brain laugh.

Let the state pay for your life - Become an illegal alien!

JUST GOT THIS FROM A FRIEND. I'VE SEEN IT BEFORE BUT IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T:

FORMS ARE GOING FAST- SIGN UP TODAY!

Becoming Illegal (Actual letter from an Iowa resident and sent to his
senator)

The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone (202) 224 3254
Washington DC, 20510

Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I
am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of
Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an
illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to
illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate
and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is
accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five
years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and
income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see
one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it
out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes
every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes
in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be
illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my
family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency
room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums
for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a
year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would
receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as
well as 'in-state' tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United
States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of
renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance
premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age
children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal
(retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be
most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,
Donald Ruppert

The new setup - Part Drei

Ok....so I got the garden moved out of the garage out onto the patio. It's not totally complete but it's done for the most part.

I need to build a stand and put in some more plants. But, until then...this is it.

UPDATE: I've built a nice stand out of PVC that is much less conspicuous than the patio chairs. ;) Pictures soon.

Some pretty telling "gaffes" by Obama...

Doubletapper's got the goods on a growing list of 50 proven lies by Obama.

Why does anyone believe this guy?? Because he talks of HOPE? or CHANGE? Well speaking of audacity...read some of his lies.

Obama supported by Fidel Castro...

...yet another reason not to vote for him

"Another gun blog" has the quote.

Barrel shrouds are the shoulder things that go up

The new setup - Part Zwei

Ok...where did we leave off? Right, net pots fitting.

The net pots fit perfectly:

So, now on to the drip system. I took and clamped the 1/2" OD (outside diameter) vinyl hose to the trough:

Then I prepared the dripper (?) portion. I cut tubes of equal lenth:

I put the 1/4" double-barbed connectors in one end of each:

...and the adjustable flag drippers on the other end:

Then the drip hose:

I used the hole punch to make a hole in line with each of the net pots and connected each of the drippers:

Added some Hydroton (expanded clay beads) to one:

More on the way...

The new setup - Part Eins

I have decided, since we have zero gardening space at our condo, that it is time to get some gardening in. I love gardening. I get to be "one with nature" and grow stuff. It makes me feel like a sort of hunter gatherer in my little piece of the world. Someday we'll have some land to grow our food the right way....in abundance. Until then, I'll use hydro.

So, first I had to figure out which types of hydroponics would be aesthetically pleasing for Jen. She doesn't want just any old ugly thing (like the old hydro) just lurkin' about. It's got to look somewhat presentable.

So, I decided to use 4x4 pvc fence post

I decided to use 3.75" net pots with about 4" in between each one. I started 4" in and every 8" after that.

I checked each marked spot for center:

and then used a Super Slider furniture mover that was just the right size to draw the circles and drilled a pilot hole in each one.

Then, I got to use some of my tools. I got out the Dremel, that isn't really a Dremel, a clamp, and the shop vac.

I cut out all the holes and vacuumed out the tray:

Next, I drilled a hole for the drain:

Next, I checked the net-pots for good fit:

More soon...

A new drip hydroponic setup - This is the old one.

Ok, hydroponic gardening is cool. For the uninitiated, this is gardening without soil. I once had an ebb and flow type system that I built out of PVC, 2 liter bottle caps, and a tupperware container.

This type of system, in all it's ugliness, offered a lot of versatility. I could use nets with vermiculite or perlite or cups with rockwool, or net pots or the little pots that small veggie plants come in from the store... LOTS of different ways to go with this one. For a starter, I HIGHLY recommend it. I have some plans on how to build one, let me know if you want them.

Crazed killers in Kansas City and Ohio

It looks like the governments of Missouri and Ohio don't trust their citizens. Apparently they both think that simply having a gun, even a loaded gun, in arm's reach suddenly turns people into crazed killers. Don't people realize that there are 48 states with right-to-carry laws? Also, people in everyone of those states have said, "oh dear...it's going to be a blood bath" or "people will just shoot each other to solve arguments" et cetera, ad naseum. But....did that ever happen? No. What happened is that people were able to defend themselves against the bad guys.

When will people stop believe what their being told by the Mayor Nutters, Paul Helmkes, the Jill Porters and the Mayor Bloombergs of the world?

Lou - Recovery Day #14

I think I might have helped Lou bump back to day one. Yesterday, when I got home I pulled Lou out of RP#1 (Recover Pen #1) and walked him into the house. We have wood floors which aren't usually a problem unless he gets all excited and slips all over. Well....he decided to get all excited and all four legs just slipped out from underneath him. :( Not good. Later, he was limping again. His limping hadn't stopped but it seemed to have subsided a little. We'll watch him today to see...

WOUND WEAR, where's our brace????

Gas driving me to buy foreign car

So, whatever it is that is truly driving gas prices up is driving me to do something I thought I'd never do....buy a Japanese car. The gas prices have gone up about 33% in a year....I'm sure they've never jumped that much in so little a time ever. Whatever it is is driving money out of our economy. I am no economic wizard but that can't be good. Cars aren't cheap. So, I'm thinking about spending $30K on a Japanese car and I'm pretty sure that takes about $25k out of our economy. Do that a couple million times and it must have a serious impact.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how people are even keeping their heads above water. Most of us live from check to check, exhausting about every penny the day before the next one arrives. So, when my 25 gallon tank is costing over $110 to fill up....where is that money supposed to come from?

Is it Prius time? Where's my hydrogen vehicle?

Banned from the prom...so she kills her mom.

I can just hear it....

Oh, the poor girl must not have been hugged enough. She probably wasn't given the things a girl her age needed, like MTV, a Cell phone, a sidekick, a computer, an Xbox, makeup, etc. etc. Poor girl was just a product of her environment.

Even though that environment just happened to be Scripps Ranch which is no slog of a neighborhood.

Her attorney will probably say something like:

She just wasn't being given a fair shake at life. Mom and dad worked long hours and sometimes the kids had to even cook their own meals. Her mother wouldn't let her go to the prom this year because her grades had been suffering. A travesty it is....that she couldn't go to her prom. She was driven to murder. It wasn't even her fault....it was her mom's fault. Jury, she was driven to hit so you must acquit.

In all actuality she probably wasn't spanked when necessary as a child. She probably didn't have any supervision, discipline or a sense of responsibility.

Here's the article of the 14 year old girl who bludgeoned her mother to death in San Diego with a hammer.

In California there are bills being proposed to ban spanking. So, during a child's most formative years, the proponents of this ban propose that you don't spank your child's bottom if they grab a knife, touch the stove, slap their parent, aggressively scream incessantly, or any other things I feel a child should be disciplined for. Nobody says you have to beat them over it but a spank to the bottom of a child under three (who usually have the protection of diapers anyway) may just work wonders. The punishment is more of a psychological disciple than a corporal/pain discipline.

I digress, this girl probably got plenty of love, plenty of material things, plenty, if not too much, of what she wanted and not enough discipline. She doesn't like her mom (just like most 14 year old girls) so..........she kills her. Brilliant.

UPDATE: Here's another link about the Dems bowing to the convicts/criminals of our country.

Pachmayr .45 ACP Snap-caps

I bought some snap caps for the Glock a couple weeks ago. I was stoked. So, I loaded them up in one of my magazines and holstered up. I drew, aimed at a predetermined location on my safe, pulled the trigger "CLICK", and racked the slide to reset the hammer and go again. When the snap-cap ejected it hit the deck and shattered. Wha????

I went to Pachmayr's website last week and told them the same story. This is what I got back a few days later:

We will send you a replacement. Next time consider our Azoom line of snap caps as they are made of metal and can take approximately 3000 hits.

Lyman customer service

Short and to the point. But, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Pachmayr, I appreciate the customer service. Never once did they try to blame me or make it into my fault. They just bucked up and are sending me a replacement. Well done.

UPDATE: Got the snap cap and a snazzy catalog a couple days later. THANKS!

Why is Marijuana Illegal?

About.com has some really good stuff. They gather information ABOUT all sorts of subjects. One of my favorites is About.com German Lessons. Today I found this one which is titled "Why is Marijuana Illegal?". have a look....

My answer, of course, is - I have no idea.

Slothful Public Servant - I think we have some of these, too

This is the type of thing that makes change eventually happen. Writing letters, contacting officials, exposing those that are unwilling to work with the people.

“Every month, I solicit a petition asking him to remove the needless restrictions placed on permits. To this day, he has never returned my phone calls or letters. He is a slothful public servant in my opinion,” he said.

What a nice weekend....

We had a great weekend... Mackenzy came over on Saturday and we went to the Wild Animal Park, out to dinner at Islands (Kenz's choice), and then to the Yogurt Shack (Jen's choice). Sunday we drove Kenz back and hung out with JK and KK for a while. Then we came home and cleaned the house. Then we went to SH and EH's house and ate cheese and drank wine. The wine came from Ann next door. She wanted to thank me for the work I do for the HOA. She's SO nice and thoughtful. Today we hung out, worked out (I about died), and shopped for some work clothes. Then I went to Lowe's and got stuff for an outdoor hydroponic garden. More on that later. Then we went to SH and EH's again for more cheese and homemade beer. Mmmm. Now....it's about bedtime.

Free in Idaho

A couple days ago I caught a blog entry on Free in Idaho! about marijuana. It seemed to me that he was pretty much dismissing marijuana as immoral and as such making it look like it was a bad thing in general. Obviously, if you've read much of this blog, I disagree. Anyway, here's a link to a discussion that I'm currently participating in on that site.

These guys both school me in writing...I'm a novice. But I feel like this is a subject that after laying out some logic and common sense people can/will turn and change their minds. I'm not sure if that is the case here but he seems to relax on his stance and makes it more of a case about an issue that can not be won. I disagree...and I digress...here's the link:

This is a link

Please chime in if you'd like. He has been courteous and accommodating, as some bloggers would just have deleted my comments because they have their points on issues and are unwilling to accept that there are other points of view.

Today

We've got our niece today so we've been on the go. Wild Animal Park this morning, dinner and dessert this evening. Fun Fun Fun. What a perfect princess she is. JK and KK, you guys have done a GREAT job with this one.

Kenz and Loubert

But....isn't there a ban in Chicago already?

"I think people have the right to lawfully bear arms," he said. "I do believe that there's nothing inconsistent with also saying that we can institute some common sense gun laws so that we don't have kids being shot on the streets of cities like Chicago, that we can institute strong background checks, that we can trace guns back to potential unscrupulous gun dealers."

Mr. Obama, isn't there already a complete ban on handguns in Chicago already? Yes. Are kids still being killed by people using guns in that city? Yes
Ok, then how well is your gun ban working? Um....

Yeah, no kidding. If it's been said once it's been said a million times: The only people that follow gun laws are law abiding citizens. So, the dirt bag criminals still have the guns....and we don't. Thus, the good guys can't protect themselves from the bad guys.

How are they ok with this? It's because they have bodyguards 24 hours a day and are out of touch with the world that normal people live in.

Here's the article....

Jewish Self Defense League

We need to have several members of our synagogue who carry concealed weapons and know how to use them. Many rabbis have offered a Heter for those members to carry guns on Shabbat and Yom Tovim for the purpose of protecting life.

Obviously someone impressed upon this writer thatn they may need to defend themselves one day, that it actually COULD happen to you.

"any rabbis have offered a Heter for those members to carry guns..."

I wonder if Heter is yiddish for Heater...or gun. ;)

Joke from my mom - Classic!

Obama fan and little Johnny

A teacher in Elmira , New York asked her 6th grade class how many of them were Obama fans.

Not really knowing what an Obama fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Johnny.
The teacher asked Little Johnny why he had decided to be different...again.
Little Johnny said, 'Because I'm not an Obama fan.'
The teacher asked, 'Why aren't you an Obama fan?'
Johnny said, 'Because I'm a Republican.'

The teacher asked him why he's a Republican.
Little Johnny answered, 'Well, my Mom's a Republican and my Dad's a Republican, so I'm a Republican.'
Annoyed by this answer, the teacher asked,
'If your mom was a moron and your dad was an idiot, what would that make you?'

Mini IPSC Match at Iron Sights 05-22-2008

Mini IPSC from Dan K on Vimeo.

UPDATE: Here are the scores from the night

Last night was the first Mini IPSC match. In fact, that was the first time I'd ever shot anything like this. I've done the steel targets a couple of times now, and the paper targets a bunch of times, but never had to shoot and move. I was a little anxious before we got started, that I'd mess up or shoot my hand off, but felt fine even while waiting for my turn.
I had been practicing my draws and some magazine changes at home but that only slightly prepared me for the real thing. Practicing at home seems to be good for presenting from the holster in a static position and getting a sight picture but it's in a sterile, non-exciting environment. Also, I've never had any formal instruction. So, when I get up there I have to think of all the things I will have to do, draw, fire, reload while moving, etc. I also have to be cognizant of my remaining ammo and whether or not I should be doing a tactical reload, where there's a round in the chamber and possibly ammo in the mag but drop the mag and reload anyway - I think, how many more targets I have left to shoot, etc.
It's all very exciting and pretty much everyone is super cool. I'd be stoked to have a buddy or two get involved so we could sort of compete. It would help force me to improve.
Anyway, that's that. Hope you enjoyed.

Video tickets

My buddy got himself a red light video ticket. Not a photo ticket like we're all used to, but a video ticket. Granted, he's driving like a dickhole and he got popped. Here's the video:

Spend 10 minutes reading this, it might actually just take one minute, and you'll be glad you don't, too.

Lou - Recovery Day #9

Lou is raring to run and play....this is getting VERY difficult. I'm looking forward to the brace, as it will give him limited range of motion.

Mini IPSC shooting tonight...

I get so excited! Today is the Oceanside Practical Pistol Club's Mini-IPSC Match day at Iron Sights. The calendar says Friday but shows Thursday... Tonight will be my first time in this particular set-up. STOKED, I can come in last place AGAIN! ;)

DJK

Sue who do you?

Suing the manufacturer of something that can hurt or kill someone is insane. Suing Ford because a ford truck killed someone is asinine. If that was legal....just about every company that produces something tangible would be sued out of existence. Let's go ahead and sue Post Cereal because some kid choked on Pops and died. It's crazy. Now, a ruling has come down in New York that says you can't sue the manufacturer of guns for crimes committed with the products they made. I think to any sane individual this makes total sense. That slope wouldn't just be slippery, it'd be straight down. It was just a tactic by the gun grabbers to try to control guns at the source. They really should have said that the companies that produce the metal ingots that get turned into guns should be sued...that'd REALLY get to the source. The big question...the million dollar question is: Why do the libs forget that PEOPLE have something to do with killing other people with guns, cars, ropes, knives, or [enter implement of choice here]? There are dirtbags drinking and driving their Ford into other people. There are scumbags who decide to kill people with guns for money. Why don't they just address those PEOPLE and not the object??? Meh.

I thought this was a joke

I read this thinking it was a joke. I thought that someone was using cynicism and humor to parody a liberal paper on how to influence the reader. Nope...it's real.

This one you all might have seen already...adding it for good measure.

Obama - Skewer of the Truth and Spewer of something else

Barack Gaffes
The Obama machine.

By Michelle Malkin

All it takes is one gaffe to taint a Republican for life. The political establishment never let Dan Quayle live down his fateful misspelling of “potatoe.” The New York Times distorted and misreported the first President Bush’s questions about new scanner technology at a grocers’ convention to brand him permanently as out of touch.

But what about Barack Obama? The guy’s a perpetual gaffe machine. Let us count the ways, large and small, that his tongue has betrayed him throughout the campaign:

Lou - Recovery Day #8

Nothing really to report.

Books don't work, Shock Em.

Last night my sister LRK emailed me and asked me if I knew of any dog training books, as she had just gotten a new dog and that is "becoming a little turd". I assume this is a little dog because LRK lives in an apartment. So, I forwarded the email to Jen (she's the dog training book reader) and she emailed back, "Books don't help. Shock em. :)". I cannot express to you how much I love this woman. Here's the backstory:

So, when we got Lou...or when Lou got us, he was fairly aggressive. He wasn't mean per se but like to play really rough. We don't know where he came from (he showed up on our doorstep at about 6 months old) but it seems that he never received any training/discipline; he was pretty aggressive. He was/is VERY loving but when he played he liked to bite...HARD.

Fast forward about six months from when we got him. Jen and I had moved south and found some new places to take Lou to play. One place was a school with a very large grass area (maybe a few acres) that seemed to usually be empty. So, we'd take him there. We soon found out that Lou was MESMERIZED by soccer balls. He LOVES them and can/will chase a soccer ball for HOURS or until he can't walk anymore...whichever comes first.

The problem, we found out, was that when he got all riled up with the soccer ball he would want to jump on you and bite the hell out of you. He bit Jen a few times so hard that it left bruises and broke the skin. I couldn't take it and beating him into submission wasn't an option.

We talked about or options and started calling trainers. We called a few who had a few different methods. Being that we were looking more for a way to curb the aggression, we went for a guy named Chad Arberg of Pawsitive Canine
Chad came over and showed us how his training works. He brought an "E-Collar" and wanted to put it on Lou. I was a bit hesitant as I had always been an opponent of "shock collars". But, we were in a desperate situation and needed something, so I obliged.

For the uninitiated the collar isn't just a car battery with nipple clamps attached and a button...it's got buttons and knobs and is adjustable for any dog in any situation. We have the Dogtra 1500NCP which has a buzzer that vibrates like a pager/cell-phone, a 1/200th of a second nick "stimulation" and a continuous "stimulation". Stimulation = shock. The stimulation can go from 1 to 100.

So, the first time he put this on Lou and nicked him to come, he started spinning in circles. He didn't know what the hell was going on. It freaked me out and I wanted to pretty much kill Chad. I looked at Jen and my eyes said, "Eff this, No way, get this guy outta here". Luckily, she had a cooler head and told me to just give it 15 minutes.

After five minutes of seeing this miracle worker do his thing I was on board. This collar in no way breaks their spirit, bums them out, hurts them, or any of the other things you might be thinking. Once Lou was comfortable with it (one or two days) he would get excited to see it because seeing it meant we were going somewhere to play.

Anyway, we worked on the aggression, the nipping and biting, and all sorts of other things and now Lou wouldn't think of nipping/biting. He's a very well trained dog, albeit still very energetic.

To anyone who might be having similar troubles/issues with their dog, I HIGHLY recommend this product and the training that goes with it.

Lou and Juliette agree to share space....

Lou - Recovery Day #7

Lou really doesn't seem to be limping any less. He's spending most of his day(about eight hours) in his pen in the garage. When I get home, he is usually penned into the kitchen. Then, I take him to go poop at about 5.30 and then carry him up the stairs where he's penned into the landing. So as I mentioned before we decided to order a brace for our guy. We think that this will keep his leg stationery enough so that it might heal on it's own. I called Wound Wear On Sunday and was about ready to plop down the $345 for said brace. That's when the person on the phone told me that if I get my vet to buy it that it would only be $230. So, I called Dr. Zeiss at Mission Animal Hospital and he said that he'd look into it. Well, they placed the order for us yesterday. So, I'll keep the blog updated.

Here's what we ordered....Looks goofy but if it works...who cares?

Obama's Wife

Man... Obama really can't stand the heat. He's crying over the fact that people are bashing him for things that his wife said. What a silly bitch he is. Doesn't he remember when Reverend Wright married them? Doesn't he remember the part where Wright told them that they are now together as one? Well, in my book, since I've always got my wife's back, that means that what she says....I say. I'm sure that they share feelings and she's probably just parroting HOPE and the AUDACITY that he feeds her. So...Obama, why shouldn't the stuff your wife says at campaign rallies and interviews about your campaign be fair game????

Even the Brits are laughing at him.

Ya know, I find B-Ho is mostly a self-righteous attention whore. So, let’s just get that out of the way first.

But this whole dust up over Barack Milhouse Obama’s wife is stupid. See, once your wife hopped into the campaign, shit she says is fair game. Period. Done. End of story. Too bad for you, she said some pretty stupid shit. Even our senator is getting in on the rebuke! But I’ll tell you why it’s dumb. Actually, I won’t because Rachel Lucas already has and it’s easier to just quote that:

What a dickhead. He can’t possibly believe that things his wife says at political campaign rallies are immune from criticism. As Hot Air pointed out, Barack himself has criticized Bill Clinton in the exact same way. And I will give each of you five trillion dollars if Cindy McCain ever says anything massively stupid and inflammatory on stage at a public McCain campaign event, and the Obama campaign ignores it because she’s the wife, not the candidate.

All’s fair in love, war, and politics. Put on your big boy pants and step in the game. Now, back to my regularly scheduled not giving a shit about Michelle Obama’s feelings.

Wow, a journalist who isn't bowing to the liberal masses. She talks about the right and need to be able to protect ones self. She speaks on the fact that the bad guys have some serious firepower and that there are a lot of folks that think we, the people, the law abiding people, should have NONE.

Here's the link...it's a great article.

See the comment section. Here's comment #2

"Hey Vicki, great article. You sound like me preaching to my grandkids about the true meaning of the second amendment, personal responsibility, etc. Unfortunately the liberals have infiltrated are society to such a degree that they are pushing this "sheep mentality" in our schools.....just follow, don't question and let big brother tell you what to do. My grandkids may joke about my way of thinking but it does my heart good when I hear them joking about "zig-zagging" while running if there is a school shooter instead of lying down and dying like sheep or using a sharp pencil to the eye of a rapist, etc. My grandkids have been told that when it comes to their survival there are no rules of etiquette and to do what they think is best, not what some politically correct teacher or school system feels is "correct." Perhaps if today's parents taught their children more about survival Cho wouldn't have been able to slaughter 32 sheep at Virginia Tech." -

D.R. Horton - America's WORST homebuilder

In February of 2006 Jen and I went down to a DR Horton new home sales office. They were so nice to us and to themselves. They talked up their company like they were the second coming of christ. So, being the first time we've ever bought a house we believed them. Now, I think I am a pretty good judge of character but these guys were on the short list of people who could sell ice to Eskimos (or so we thought). Here we are about two years later and there are so many problems with the community that we're going to have to sue the builder just to get proper drainage in at least one common area. There's a "Tot Lot" in the center of the community that is a sunken basin of concrete with a jungle gym type of thing. Well, DR Horton decided that it would be a good idea to tie a bunch of sprinkler runoff drains into the tot lot drainage. That might have been a great idea except for one little thing....they didn't tie the drainage below that into anything! They ran the pipes into the dirt and that is where it stopped. They stopped it about 40 feet short of any drain. So, it backed up and overflowed and it was an absolute mess!! The streets that they put down have come up not once....but twice now. Some of the street lamps have NEVER worked in spite of at least 10 customer service calls/letters. Now, DR Horton isn't returning our phone calls. Nice. So much for being "America's Best Builder"

Old School 1911 - The Orig...

You can bid on it here...
Well, you could have. The auction has ended with a high bid of $52,000. RESERVE NOT MET

Wow. A piece of history.

Some 1911 handgun assembly porn

Nothing really sexy about this....but it's cool to watch all the parts go together. It's biblical how the parts fit so perfectly into one another.

Lou - Recovery Day #6

Lou is NOT digging this recovery time. Yesterday we went to my mom's house for her birthday party and were gone for about six hours. We thought about crating him but don't generally like to crate him for that long. So, we just left him in the garage. But, I think that's too much space; he might run around with a toy or whatever. Also, the floor in the garage is slippery. So, we found him a fence to pen him off a smaller area where he can still stretch out. We went to Kahoot's and got one for about $85.

Government supplied chronic...

For 30 years the US Government has been supplying a small group of people with herb. The program stopped accepting applications in 1992 when George HW Bush stopped the program.

So...I don't understand what the big fuss is over pot. If they're willing to grow it, package it, and ship it to patients they should be willing to regulate it and let the people enjoy it responsibly, just like alcohol.

Politicians have no shame...

How do things like this happen in our government?? At that level of politics, have they no shame?

Lou - Recovery Day #4

Lou is still limping... He can be a very hyper guy. If we're just chillin' upstairs...being mellow...and Jen comes home and opens the garage, he jumps half way across the room. So, I am thinking that we get the dog an orthotic brace for his leg so he can't move it very much. That way, he can still be sorta hyper but won't able to keep reinjuring his knee.

Hey guys, this is fun!!

Steel Fun Match at Iron Sights

This is so much fun....I wish that I was better at it....

Here's a link to the whole video... It's about 6-7 minutes

A couple of the candidates don't want us to be able to do this. What's even worse is that they don't even think you should be allowed to protect yourself in your own home or business! They tell us that they believe in the second amendment but that they want to be able to put restrictions on it....like, you can't have any guns. I guess they fail to see that the guys in suits that protect them every day carry guns.
