from The Right To Bear Arms
That’s what Say Uncle says. But of course, Barack has turned himself into a pretty slick politician. He has these absurd viewpoints on the second amendment, so he can say things like:
“I’ve been talking about the Second Amendment being an individual right for the last year and a half. So there wasn’t a shift there.”
Well, that’s true. Or is it? He had said previously that he believed the D.C. handgun law to be constitutional. Of course, in the real world, such a viewpoint cannot mesh with the support of the individual’s right to own a gun. If a state, city, county, district, etc. bans the ownership of handguns, and you support that, then you cannot claim you believe the second amendment protects the right of an individual to bear arms. But Obama thinks you can because he tempers his support of second amendment rights with the nonsense that local governments should have the right to provide “common sense gun laws” to keep firearms out of the wrong hands.
As I have said before, if anybody tried that line of reasoning with speech laws or abortion they’d never be able to get away with it and the media would have a field day. Imagine if John McCain said, “I support a woman’s right to choose, but believe local governments should have the right to provide common sense laws that will minimize abortions.” Why does Obama get a free pass?
Unfortunately, there are too many dullards in our country who listen to Obama’s double-speak on the issue and applaud like seals waiting for a fish.
So is Obama lying? Yeah, he is. He no more supports the right of the individual to own a gun than James Dobson supports abortion rights.
