The people at the office...they don't seem to get it.

The people at my office just don't get it. They snicker and sneer about how "paranoid" I am because I think people should be able to carry a gun. They laugh and joke about the idea that they might need to protect themselves someday from an oppressive government....to which, I replied.....remember England (and with an Englishman in the room)and that craz King of theirs? Remember his oppressive government that a a few guys with a few guns fought and conqured......and now we're sitting here in their country? Remember those guys? Maybe they don't see what's going in Darfur, Congo, Zimbabwe.....Hell...China. People really just think everything is fine and dandy. I guess they don't know that there are slimebuckets robbing, raping, and killing people like them...like us...every day. I'm not paranoid....I'm prepared (I hope). I'm prepared for when I am leaving my office and some piece of shit asks for a cigarette in hopes of shooting me in the face if/when I don't give it to him. It happens....

UPDATE: Here's a post about the same murder over at War on Guns

Paranoid is an unreasonable fear that "they" are out to get you. What do you call it when your fear is reasonable?

"They" (the ones like Broadnax & Cummings) ARE out to get you. Your fear is not unreasonable. If you can't carry a firearm (I see you live in California), get some training in unarmed self-defense (or move over here to TX, where we respect that right more). As more than one of my friends says... "Carry 24/7 or guess right." Those two in Garland unfortunately did not (and yet they were in a "safe" neighborhood!).

Aside from that, you probably aren't going to convert those who don't want to be a sheepdog (http://www.sunnimaravillosa.com/guns/sheepdog.html). I enjoy firearms as a hobby and share it with others that ask, but don't discuss my carry status with them unless they ask if I know about CHLs. I encourage people who show an interest to get a CHL and even take them to the range to learn about guns if they want to go. I haven't yet had any company offer to escort me out, reiterate company "no guns" policies or any other wierdness, but I know folks who have. I figure its a risk that I'm willing to take to stand up for a right & hobby I enjoy.

Best of luck to you...

I wonder if ANONYMOUS watched that video. Maybe he/she doesn't realize that there are people out there like that.

The truly paranoid are the cops and assorted antigunners who scowl and shiver when those who choose to defend themselves are present.

Reminds me of the idiots who have 'banned' guns from the Indiana Statehouse. Talk about paranoia and disdain. they are senselessly scared and I abhor them -s-

It just seems silly to call gun carriers "paranoid". We are the ones who are secure enough to offer help to the person stranded on the dark road. We are the ones who don't need to fear the escaped rapist who was last seen heading in our direction. We are the ones who are prepared to really help the person being assualted on the street. Not "paranoid"; human.

The likelihood of someone getting into a car accident so bad that they are unable to call for help on their cell phone, or that noone else around the accident will dial 911 is low, in my opinion.
And yet, people still buy OnStar for that very reason.
